Option #2 [Primary Rhetorical Mode: Narration | Primary Genre: Fable]: For Informal Assignment # 15 I decided to make a fable as my primary genre. Below is a story of how I riddled my way through procrastination, writer's block, uncertainty, and distress due to impending deadlines. My Fable: Formal Assignment # 1: The Evil Sorcerer Jillian of the House DiLucido had always prided herself on her wit and courage. She had boasted from the tender age of five that she could read anything anyone put in front of her. That was a great feat for someone who resided in her country. Literate folk were hard to come by, and anyone who could write as well as read was considered a magician. Jillian loved coming up with her own stories to share with other people. She put her heart and soul into those stories and hoped that one day they would be called the greatest in the land. But alas, that day was yet to come. One day, she was going about minding her own business, when an evil sorcerer by the name of Sabatino Mangini approached her. She felt no fear, because she knew that she could read and write as well as he. He approached her, stuck his finger in her face and said, "I command you to write a fan-fiction!" Outwardly, Jillian showed no sign of her distress. Fan-fiction? she thought. She loathed fan-fictions. She considered them to be sloppy copies of other people's work, and had never enjoyed one that she read. As stated before she enjoyed making up her own stories. Stealing from someone else was inherently wrong. But of course, Sabatino knew that. She could not ignore his command, although. Whatever the evil sorcerer said, had to be done. "I will give you one week to complete this fan-fiction! Make sure it's good and over one thousand words!" "Ha!" Jillian laughed back. "I scoff at one thousand words. I'll make it two thousand!" With an evil glare, Sabatino snapped his fingers and vanished in a puff of sulfurous smoke. Jillian raced back to her cottage and began to write furiously. After an hour or two of writing, she ripped up her work, unhappy with it. What in the world did she want to write about? Fan-fiction's were so new that she hadn't had much time to study up on them. How did one begin writing a fan-fiction? What play should she write the fan-fiction about? Jillian pondered for three days and nights before she finally decided what play she would write about. It was a relatively new play, not one that many people were familiar with but Sabatino had commanded many people to watch this play and take notes on it. It only seemed fitting that she write about it. Once she had decided what play to write about, it took her another three days to figure out what characters she wanted to write about. She only had one day left before Sabatino required his fan-fiction. What would happen if she happened to show up with no fan-fiction at all? The thought crossed her mind many a time as she sat with her quill, ink, and paper. She decided that she didn't want to find out. It was around midnight of the day it was due that she finally put down her quill, scattering sand across the paper to dry the ink quickly. She was finished. When the sun finally rose Jillian strode out into the village, extremely confident of her work. When the evil sorcerer appeared she thrust the pages at him with her head held high. "I'm sure you'll find this suitable." He snatched the papers from her hand and replied, "We'll see. I'll have these back in two days." "Good." "Good." My Fable: Formal Assignment # 2: The Brain and the Fool Word of Jillian of the House DiLucido's triumph against the evil sorcerer Sabatino Magnini had spread like wildfire in the village in which she resided. Everyone she knew visited her at various times to congratulate her on a job well done. Everyone, including a jester known as Scott Exler. Now this fool, upon hearing of her great triumph, and upon looking on her serene beauty, fell in love with her. But Jillian scoffed at him as she had scoffed at the one thousand words Sabatino had told her to write. Scott was but a fool, certainly not worthy of her attention, let alone her love. But alas, he visited her so it was only custom that she strike up a conversation. Upon talking to him she became firmly convinced that there was nothing she could do to smarten up the man. Albeit rather stupid, his tricks and jokes were entertaining. There was a part of her that was sad to see him go. The next day as she was walking about the village, Sabatino appeared again. But this time he had a different proposition for her. "I command you to make a multi-genre project, about the same play on which you based your fan-fiction! And this time, you'll have a partner!" Oh, goody. Jillian sarcastically thought. Who in the world could match her wit and expertise in literacy? "Your partner will be......SCOTT EXLER!" It was as if Scott had appeared from nowhere. He was suddenly at her elbow, grinning widely. "What? This can't be! This is torturous! The man has no wits!" Sabatino did not reply. All he did was cackle maniacally as he vanished in another puff of smoke. So Jillian was forced to work with Scott on the multi-genre project. Throughout the process they disagreed on many things but she soon came to realize that he was smarter than he looked. When the project was finally done she breathed a huge sigh of relief.
