How did the Man in the High Castle intertextually impact your own narrative writing in this course?
The T.V. series Man in the High Castle impacted my writing in this course because it made me think of different situations and scenarios that I wouldn't normally think about. The Man in the High castle in of itself is set in a dystopian future, sort of a "what if" scenario. What if Japan and Germany had won World War II? What would life have been like then? This T.V show has impacted my writing by making me ask the question "what if?" more often. By asking this question I have been able to come up with new ideas and therefore expand my literary and narrative writing. How did at least one other course reading intertextually impact your own narrative writing in this course? Out of all of the readings I have done for this class, I would have to say that Bullet in the Brain by Tobias Wolff stands out to me the most. This reading was particularly interesting because it showed how to make an extremely amusing, life-like character. Through this reading I was inspired to make my narrative characters seem more real and relatable. Having relatable characters is what make for a good narrative story, whether it be a short story or an entire novel. How did at least one other text outside of this course intertextually impact your own narrative writing in this course? A specific text that had stood out for me for a long time is the young adult novel Inkheart. This text is another example of a reading that has extremely relatable characters. The author's writing style is easy to read, yet evocative at the same time. As a narrative writer I have tried to emulate that style. Writing that is simple, yet strong is my goal at the end.
